Lyman Louis Lemnitzer (August 29, 1899 – November 12, 1988) was born in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. William Inman Martin was born on May 5, 1910, in Ava, Missouri. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1934, and advanced through grades to the rank of vice admiral in 1967.
